So second patch walk since Mallorca and a count of 41 species today starting with a  secret never to be told 7 Magpies seem to be discussing the day's news!

Walked up over fields checking for Meadow Pipits but none to be seen, a group of 20 + House Martins overhead but not much else until village where Barn Swallows still hanging around over Newton Farm shop. About 20 of these left also.

With a 1 Jay, 2 Buzzard, Greater Spotted Woodpecker and Nuthatch showing down towards the lakes and this fancy Long Tailed Tit with a Monocle no less!!

College still quiet with not many students yet. Bottom Lake - 1 Mallard! Top Lake - 2 Mute Swans with still no sign of the 7 Cygnets.... It appears that, Cygnets stay with their parents for typically 6 months.
Once the cygnets are old enough to look after themselves the parents cut the parental ties with them and chase them away, sometimes quite aggressively.
They normally join the first flock of swans they encounter where they usually stay until they mature when about 4 years old.. (For Anne, very interesting)

Saw Kingfisher and then Kingfisher Gone!

While waiting for Kingfisher to come back yeah right! Spotted a Hornets nest, watched about 10 + go in and out nest in base of tree.

Grey Heron on far side of Top Lake with just to the right and out of view 3 female Teal. 

Also round lake 3 Grey Wagtail with 2 more on my brook a fairly good year for them. Walked on up to Park Farm past Cows and Rooks, Jackdaws and Crows numbering 150+ feeding in fields. Then at top of field saw a single Wheatear checked field out for more but just the one.

Across Lane by Park Farm and 3 Buzzard all sat on Tele Poles one pictured is the very Pale one we've seen many times first time was 2012! Lots of Wood Pigeons and at least 10 Collared Dove sat on wires, Buzzards hoping?

Across fields towards Pennsylvanian Farm and a group of gulls, Herring Gulls and Lesser Blacked Backed sat on newly ploughed fields, with 5 Pied Wagtails also.

Up and along Haycombe Lane and species count on 40, then on checking almost last tree before Pennyquick 3 Stock Doves Species List 41. Never seen them here before and only 200 yards from home ! 100's of Wood Pigeons on fields on Pennyquick dip was the last spot of the day.
